Las Vegas, the city that never sleeps has been a popular tourist destination since its founding, and became the most populous American city founded in the twentieth century.

Before Las Vegas became a popular destination to travel to, it was just a place to stop to travelers on the railroad, and on the pioneer trails to the west. It was also a staging point for the mining in the area.

Not until the completion of the Hoover Dam did Las Vegas really gain in popularity as a place to actually travel to, this was in 1935. After the completion of the dam, Las Vegas had everything it needed to become a tourist destination. In 1931, gambling was made legal and that was the beginning of what has become such a hub of travel.
